I'm not to shure from which angle I should start reasoning my suggestion.
But since it's about improving (that's what I pretend until you proof me wrong) the comunication within the fediverse, I'll just start right there from the antipatern.

Some being sensible sensitive in this topic please close your ears and eyes for a moment:
'only having timelines that curate based on time isn't that great'

It is cutting away informations that I actually find important.

Let's imagine for the moment the timeline as it were a gathering. Since I'm following +700 ppl I imagine it would be a gathering in that size.

How can we make it inclusive as possible?
How can power dynamics that acure from:
- louder voice, higher reach, more chatty...
- some having more informations what topic is discussed where, while others don't and by that can't participate

And how can suggestions to those answers be implemented within the fediverse?

Having somewhere a place or a method that enables/empowers anyone from the gathering to share at least those infos with a wider audience that has a significant high value/importance/relevance/desire for them to be listend to by others.
And having a method that lets people easy discover it.

In the 'click and engage to drive up profit' alike plattforms only controversial or posts that being shared/liked often resieving higher visability. Or algorythms that push up content in your timeline that's similiar to other posts you've engaged with, and by that driving up cultural silos.

Since every cultural space is also effecting the very culture of those using it by themself, it seems to be important (at least to me) to think about strategies countering those anti-patterns.
The purly chronological timeline is doing this to some extend. Yet I believe that's not enough.

Every post apears as it would have the same value for the person posting it as any else. Those that speak more, gain the higher attention. Those that speak little, are easily overlooked in a timeline holding space for +700 people.
Sometimes I might even just want to listen/read for 10 min a day. If I could have a way to listen/read at least those posts, where those sharing it have a high value/importance/relevance/desire for expressing it, the above mentioned anti-patterns would be counterd and my little reading time filled with highly interesting content. (interesting especially, because I enjoy listening to things that have a high value for others, even if the theme isn't particular of my interest)

Depending on eachs usecase this function might has a higher value or non at all. So think of it as part of an aproach to make it (more) enjoyable for all kinds of persons (except: bigots, racists, fascists, nazis...:-p)

Before sharing my thoughts how it could function, I'd like to empathise on the idea of anonciating content. Often it's done through voting by those that listen/read it, but missing a way to let those sharing the information expressing the importance for them. This is just my perspective, but I believe a lot of conflicts are originating from a culture that is giving most of the intention to simply those that 'speak louder' and more often (mass media is a great example for this) and easily ignoring the value/importance/relevance/desire for content for those that shared it with fewer possibilities to express it.
Does that make sense to you? Is my possibility to express myself here enough to make it understandable?

How it could look like in practice:

Giving the option to rate content that you publish. It will be only you who decides how important/relevant/... your content is to you. There could be a scale from 1-5. Maybe someone can come up with some fitting words for the different rates.
Those that resieve your content into their timeline(s) will be given an option to filter based on the given rates.
When filtering with the highes rate, I might just resieve 3-5 posts from people. But at least they'll not get lost in my timeline and I'll be given the possibility to read them even if I just spend 10 min. per day in the fediverse.

For the federated timeline this could be a great improvment. It would also give those with very few followers the option for higher visability for any of their content which they view has highly valuble. And those that have great interest in discovering such content given the possibility to filter them into their stream.

Futhermore this could be a function attracting more users to join, since it seems to be another outstanding function, none of the social networks I'm aware of have implemented.

Thanks for reading/listening so far. I'd be glad to read your feedback. If you like the idea, pls share it, so more feedback can be collected.

there was little if any interest

I've got some positive feedback for this idea, thought not much.
Beside uli I can't remember anyone giving negative feedback to it.

you train it with things you want to see and these would then bubble to the top of your stream.

I wonder how this could by design also help to break the confirmation bias. People should be responsible for doing it by themself, but it just looks like, they aren't.

Within Hubzilla you can use the affinity slider to filter content. This is obviously on a per-contact basis rather than a per-post, but I think it addresses some of your concerns.

It's a nice function. It gives me the option to organize content depending on who's posting. But since a person posts content of different 'significancy/importance/....' to other posts they make, the afinity slider doesn't allow me to filter in a way adressing my concerns satisfied.
