To those that frame an issue related to mastodon around a single person, namly @Gargron
I'll make this clear from the start. It's about power dynamics rather then a single person. And those dynamics are aplied through multible persons behaving within the frame it defines.

Eugen, from what I can judge, has been very open to the fact that he's leading the project called #mastodon. Openly and honesty. That means being responsible for the desicions that are being made, but also being the one that has the final say, always. People should have the freedom of having control over their own labor as long it's not enforcing opression. Those that joined mastodon's development, I believe, voluntarly accepted Eugen as the authority for final decisions. This indeed, as always when decision making process are designed like this, come with the cost of exclusion/opression of opinions/others.
But it isn't really forced upon anyone since it is freesoftware that can be forked anytime under the usage of a different desicion making process and that you joined voluntarly while there've been projects that offerd different aproachs to make decisions.

So I guess the point is, any critic you form towards Gargron being the leader, you have to question yourself why you'd joined voluntarly while having other options.
I guess we all agree, that everyone should be given the possibilty of maintaining a resperitory if they desire so. Thought it shouldn't be messured on their success if they should be given this possiblity or not.

It is the structure some of you disagree with. It is about the power dynamics that form, when we're devided between privilidged and unprivilidged. It is when there is no space for decision forming behond the status quo and it's current legitimated decision making format.

What ever you choose from where you're now, be aware of what you actually want and try to not reproduce patterns that left you disapointed last time.
Aplying those patterns again, will have similar results, latest in the long run.

If you're able to reason your disapointment and explain why you took a specific other aproach, I'm able to tell you where you're reusing patterns that lead to your disappointment in the first place.
(maybe not, but you still can try me.:-p)

I'm not to shure from which angle I should start reasoning my suggestion.
But since it's about improving (that's what I pretend until you proof me wrong) the comunication within the fediverse, I'll just start right there from the antipatern.

Some being sensible sensitive in this topic please close your ears and eyes for a moment:
'only having timelines that curate based on time isn't that great'

It is cutting away informations that I actually find important.

Let's imagine for the moment the timeline as it were a gathering. Since I'm following +700 ppl I imagine it would be a gathering in that size.

How can we make it inclusive as possible?
How can power dynamics that acure from:
- louder voice, higher reach, more chatty...
- some having more informations what topic is discussed where, while others don't and by that can't participate

And how can suggestions to those answers be implemented within the fediverse?

Having somewhere a place or a method that enables/empowers anyone from the gathering to share at least those infos with a wider audience that has a significant high value/importance/relevance/desire for them to be listend to by others.
And having a method that lets people easy discover it.

In the 'click and engage to drive up profit' alike plattforms only controversial or posts that being shared/liked often resieving higher visability. Or algorythms that push up content in your timeline that's similiar to other posts you've engaged with, and by that driving up cultural silos.

Since every cultural space is also effecting the very culture of those using it by themself, it seems to be important (at least to me) to think about strategies countering those anti-patterns.
The purly chronological timeline is doing this to some extend. Yet I believe that's not enough.

Every post apears as it would have the same value for the person posting it as any else. Those that speak more, gain the higher attention. Those that speak little, are easily overlooked in a timeline holding space for +700 people.
Sometimes I might even just want to listen/read for 10 min a day. If I could have a way to listen/read at least those posts, where those sharing it have a high value/importance/relevance/desire for expressing it, the above mentioned anti-patterns would be counterd and my little reading time filled with highly interesting content. (interesting especially, because I enjoy listening to things that have a high value for others, even if the theme isn't particular of my interest)

Depending on eachs usecase this function might has a higher value or non at all. So think of it as part of an aproach to make it (more) enjoyable for all kinds of persons (except: bigots, racists, fascists, nazis...:-p)

Before sharing my thoughts how it could function, I'd like to empathise on the idea of anonciating content. Often it's done through voting by those that listen/read it, but missing a way to let those sharing the information expressing the importance for them. This is just my perspective, but I believe a lot of conflicts are originating from a culture that is giving most of the intention to simply those that 'speak louder' and more often (mass media is a great example for this) and easily ignoring the value/importance/relevance/desire for content for those that shared it with fewer possibilities to express it.
Does that make sense to you? Is my possibility to express myself here enough to make it understandable?

How it could look like in practice:

Giving the option to rate content that you publish. It will be only you who decides how important/relevant/... your content is to you. There could be a scale from 1-5. Maybe someone can come up with some fitting words for the different rates.
Those that resieve your content into their timeline(s) will be given an option to filter based on the given rates.
When filtering with the highes rate, I might just resieve 3-5 posts from people. But at least they'll not get lost in my timeline and I'll be given the possibility to read them even if I just spend 10 min. per day in the fediverse.

For the federated timeline this could be a great improvment. It would also give those with very few followers the option for higher visability for any of their content which they view has highly valuble. And those that have great interest in discovering such content given the possibility to filter them into their stream.

Futhermore this could be a function attracting more users to join, since it seems to be another outstanding function, none of the social networks I'm aware of have implemented.

Thanks for reading/listening so far. I'd be glad to read your feedback. If you like the idea, pls share it, so more feedback can be collected.

i don t comply - how about you get more focused yourself what you want to have in your timeline, before to force others to judge their own postings ?! and what damnfucking crap is this : louder voice ?! wtf ?!! theses nothing-saying mass-posters should get psychotherapy4free but not a reward.

how about you get more focused yourself what you want to have in your timeline,

how would this fix the reasons I came up with this idea?

to force others to judge their own postings
There is no reason to force anyone for this. You simply turn it on, or not. It can absolutly be optional

what damnfucking crap is this : louder voice ?! wtf ?!!

English is not my first language. I believe you have understood what it means, since in your next sentence you reply to it as if you understood it.

theses nothing-saying mass-posters should get psychotherapy4free but not a reward.

Ehm what? Do you believe you have understood my suggestion at all? To me it just sounds as there's something that made you angy...cause you're completly missing the point here. Maybe you just like to read the text again? If you're not just ranting, but being interested I'm happy to answer your questions further.

https://www.bibleserver.com/index.php?ref=Apg11,26&trl_desig=EU&language=de&gw=go

The Cicada 3301 and Wikileaks connection (Vault 7 & Cicada 3301 March 7) ties took the cake for me. Just a total WTF...... uhhhhhhh seriously WTF!?

sry I don't get it. What do you mean?
 from Diaspora
Cicada 3301 was tied/involved with Wikileaks Vault 7 release. While I'd been aware of the Cicada 3301 for years, I only took moderate interest in it, but last year after the Wikileaks Vault 7 connection, I became more interested and took took to working it the following May through June as their next counter counted down to June 1 (Cicada 3301 had first provided the password for the first Vault 7 release prior to it's release, then provided a countdown timer that counted down to March 7th 2017, Wikileaks then released the first Vault 7 in an encrypted zip file at the resolution of the Cicada timer using the password string Cicada had provided).

Wikileaks and Assange played dumb about their involvement..... in as much that while they never denied the connection, they also never publicly made mention of it.

In any regard, at the resolution of the next counter, Trump (and subsequently Hillary Clinton) showed their involvement. This came in the form of the "Covblehbleh" cypher (which was a gematria cypher). Of course the global media also jumped in on it. If you have an email address, I'd be more than happy to send you what that message basically said. As is, I will simply leave it at that it was by far what I consider easily the most bold and audacious socio-eco-political message EVER delivered to global public in recorded history and was backed both immediately and in following months (that have ran into this year AND still continue).....and it was far from something "kind" (in fact, one may say it was a threat to global public).

I'd thought numerous of Wikileaks and Assange's behaviours to have grown odd with things like the PETA connections and else, but the Cicada connection, notably post "Covblehbleh" was a "nail in the coffin" so to speak.

You can find a bit more on the Wikileaks/Cicada connection

Solving The Cicada 3301 2017 Puzzle | PART 2 | The Internet's Most Complex Puzzle
by Fright Knight on YouTube
..... suffice it to say, despite Assange/Wikileaks not discussing their involvement, the involvement is actually public (and has been for quite some time).

As I've come to say of Wikileaks (and folks like Snowden as well) post this: "Sometimes the question isn't whether or not information is accurate or true, sometimes the question is why was the truth told?"

Toward such ends, I agree with the author on that there's been a lot of public good that's come of Wikileak dumps, but toward same end, I would also not only back their allusion to there "seeming" to be funny business behind Wikileaks, but would 100% conclusively confirm "THERE IS" funny business behind Wikileaks and that Assange and Wikileaks are not what they seem.
I wouldn't take this so far as to implicate all that have been involved with Wikileaks, but I would take it as far as to say many of the suspicions John Young (of Cryptome) had alluded to about Assange proved correct. The full on hard proof ultimately came in the form of underhanded public confession from Assange/Wikileaks themselves via the Cicada connection.

Of additional note, Sophia getting citizenship in Saudi Arabia (can easily search that if you are not aware of the occurrence), strings of "UFO disclosures", Intel's CEO speaking of "Quantum Supremacy" at this years CES convention, the super odd behaviours of the markets last year running through this year, the DOW market plunge on Feb. 2 of this year, among else, ALL directly relate to the "Covblehbleh" (cypher) message that was given to public on June 1st. As noted, I'd be willing to go over what the message meant in an email (it was actually a rather long message, one could write an essay on it's statements honestly), but I think going over even the string of things I just listed along with some minor digging into the Cicada of even last year (one link already provided) would give enough of an idea. Sort of one of those things that given how bold and audacious the statement was, it's probably easier to digest looking into oneself than simply being told by someone you don't personally know.

Personally, one of my attempted sums of it's message more recently was simply this: https://joindiaspora.com/posts/11519956

conflict within palestine about who gets to control continues.

The #fatha the dominating party within the palestinian authority body #PLO lost in the last? election 2006 of the #PLC (council) against #hamas. (cause of conflicts between fatha and hamas the first election since 1996.)
This ended in armed struggle deviding the palestinian goverment control into two regions, 'the West Bank governed by the Palestinian National Authority (PNA/PLO), and Gaza governed by Hamas.'

NOW:
''For the first time in nine years, the Palestinian National Council (PNC) is scheduled to convene in Ramallah on Monday, in a meeting that has Palestinians split between supporters and opponents of the gathering.

The PNC is expected to vote in a new 18-member Executive Committee of the PLO, the governing body of the organisation, and discuss transforming the Palestinian Authority, which governs parts of the occupied West Bank, into a state with its own institutions and monetary system.

'Hamas is not invited to the council meeting, even as the topic of Palestinian reconciliation is high on the PNC agenda'

A ficitive anti-civic anarchist
Civil society comes with predefined norms which we reject. Not cause we reject norms in general, but because we reject static norms that are enforcing a status quo, based on ideals that are against our own needs in order to serve a rulling class.
Our attention is scutterd around, not from choosing them after priotizing based on our needs, but based on civic society, it's culture where hedonism and ignorance is valued higer then reducing pain and creating a good life for all.

We can choose between millions of bath tubes, get door handles in any colour out of any material...jet this same so called civic society is giving a shit about if everyone has enough to eat or a shelter.

I'm not calling to be primitive, but leaving the discrations and lies produced by civic society beside.

If this means to be an anti-civic I am.

(and this text is to some extend fictive)

@paulfree14 maybe check out the system-change.org project. They have pretty nice ideas. Looking forward to the English translation of their book. I read the German one and it’s amazing.

just one of many projects I started but left abandon.

I wanted to create some kind of movie that was highlighting that even with all our differences how similar the needs behind our actions are. And how similiar the barriers and limitations are that we face.

I didn't had a camera, nor money, nor did I want to buy a camera. I've been just randomly asking people if I could interview them. When they agreed to, I told them that I have no electronic device and if I could use theirs.

I had in mind that I'll contact them later again to get the material. I never did. Now they all have interviews from themselfs with questions being asked they haven't thought about since long or even ever.
So at least it was good for some interuption of their routine daylife.

I don't know about a plugin that works with Flickr. Recently @Christopher M. Rasch compiled a nice list of Hubzilla plugins on the wiki: https://project.hubzilla.org/wiki/hubzilla/Hubzilla%2BProject/Plugins%2BTable

There are already some widgets for displaying photos and albums from the Hubzilla file storage that you can use in Hubzilla Webpages, for example. If you are looking to have complete control over the presentation and interaction with your photos yet maintain the decentralized access control over the content, an addon would probably be the way to go. Still, you might be able to achieve what you want using a theme instead, but I'm not certain.

I haven't seen any plugins that worked with Flickr yet.

There are Frequently Used Arguments that people bring up to justify their behavior for sticking with fb and co instead of using federated service.

I'd like to create a list with the most frequently used arguments with the purpose of writing an article that is countering every single one of it.
(propably takes a while)

So please help me with just replying with some of the most FUA that you came across. You can formulate the full argument, or just reply with keywords.

Here's some FUA that I came across:

network effect
reach
silo
no friends on there
to complicated
not my target audience
don't want to handle even more accounts
it will anyway soon be abondant
nothing to hide nothing to fear

What else?

#facebook #fediverse

Few additions to the list, mostly collected while talking to semi-technical users (the most "end-user stuff" is already on your list). Not sure how "frequently" they are for others, though:

- "I learnt that I don't have reasons to trust Facebook or Twitter. Why should I trust *someone* hosting infrastructure *somewhere* which, in the end, might again just live on top of AWS or Google Cloud?"

- "Facebook or Twitter are large structures, they have loads of engineers and still Twitter is down once in a while. How realistic is it that all the instances required for me to communicate with my contacts will have a reasonable uptime? Who will keep the services running in a reliable way knowing it's all very early and at times very fragile code mostly operated by enthusiastic commons in their spare time?"

- "A load of infrastructure the current 'fediverse' is built upon are small and medium-sized software projects driven by enthusiasts lacking project management, quality management, funding, roadmaps and any sort of planning. What's the reason to be even remotely sure any of these projects will still be actively maintained and developed by tomorrow and not been given up for something newer and more interesting? What happens if the core mastodon dev gets hired by IBM and SAP and has no more spare time for this project?"

- "Open source is a pointless argument. The problem with Facebook is not the software being proprietary (in fact, Facebook 'gives back' a load of software components as FOSS to the community) but administration, operation and business surrounding this. How does software being 'open source' make this any better?"

- "A walled garden is bad but at least, in a 'walled garden' there is some sort of isolation between an external and the internal world which also keeps certain threats out, both technically and in terms of data leaking. This seems by magnitudes more difficult to manage."

- "I don't care about all that technical fuzz. Though I want to have an ethical, reasonably secure and reasonably 'private' solution, I still want to be a customer and want to have an experience similar to Twitter or Facebook. I don't necessarily *want* but *have* to communicate, and I want to spend as little effort on that as possible. Even less I want to care about running my own 'instance' of something or having to deal with gory details such as web hosting, database management, backup, system upgrades; I know nothing of any of these topics. I want to buy and use something that suits my needs."

- "Facebook and Twitter, despite all the obvious problems, are commercial entities and subjects to certain regulations that also could be enforced. How can we enforce regulations upon a crowd of volunteers who we don't even know and who are running infrastructure components which we don't fully grasp?"

- "If admins of certain fediverse instances are able to block other instances, this is not at all something to encourage or support 'free speech', I am same as bad (intransparently) locked up in a filter bubble beyond my control."

Woah, Kristian, your friends have tough questions... do you have good answers, or do you need some from the community? ;)

thx for all the aditional questions.
Still haven't wrote that article. Hope I'll do somewhen in near future.
